...This could turn NSFW depending WHO KNOWS. Also SPOILERS 4 CHAPTER 9
Words had been exchanged, and he'd been more than smug when he'd fled on his stupid airship.
The last thing she can clearly recall from life as a mortal is holding Noctis in her arms while water rained down on them, pressing the Ring of the Lucii into his palm and shielding him to the best of her abilities. She'd fully accepted death, had been ready to embrace her true fate for what it was.
...But then she'd awakened in a dark hotel room with her elder brother staring down at her with the most perplexed expression she'd ever seen him wear. She was confused too, of course. She felt tired and weak and cold. Strangely, she'd felt thirsty. She can remember having a brief conversation with her brother, who was gently trying to put the pieces together for her. It was only when he had placed her own hand against her chest that it hit her: she'd had no beating heart. That she wasn't needing to draw breath anymore.
Ravus had left her after a while despite her protests. Before he'd left, he'd assured her that Noctis had survived... which meant that the prince more than likely thought her dead. To be fair, he wouldn't be wrong. She'd hastily picked up their shared book and had written a quick note:
I hope you are feeling better. Whenever you feel healthy enough, we need to speak. It is urgent. I must ask that you tell no one. Please forgive me, Noctis.
-Lunafreya
She'd given the book to Umbra, along with the address of the hotel she'd been brought to, and he'd gone quickly to find their prince and deliver the message as per usual. Which brings them to the here and now -- she's sitting wearily on the edge of her bed, fidgeting almost restlessly. It's nightfall, and she feels like she needs to just go out and do something.
She'd spent the day experimenting. She'd tried to go outside after her brother had left, but the sun -- the one thing she'd promised to make sure stayed around -- had hurt so badly. She'd felt like she was on fire, honestly, and the fact that her skin was quite literally steaming and smoking had only served to confirm everything for her.
She's not sure what brought this on. Clearly, it had to do with the Chancellor -- it's the only thing she can think of. But perhaps Noctis will have more insight on these things when he gets here... maybe. She's almost nervous to see him, because she doesn't know how he's going to react. She's not even sure how she feels about this.
Pryna whines at her feet, and she leans down to lightly pet her companion. ] Myself as well, Pryna... whatever are we to do about this, hm?
so 10 years late and then i wrote a novel. IM SORRY
He flips through the pages of the journal. There's so many memories, so many notes they've written to each other. Promises that they'd be together, that one day they would be married. His eyes catch over the words 'I love you' written in neat writing over the page and he lets his fingers trace over each letter. He can feel the sting of tears threatening to fall and he tries holding them back. Eventually he loses that battle and a soft sob falls from his lips. ]
I'm sorry...
[He doesn't know how long he sits there flipping through the pages. There's letters exchanged through the years. Some happy, some sad. Pictures and flowers pressed between pages with notes written to the side. Finally he reaches the end-- a sylleblossom is pressed against the last page and he closes his eyes again. How could this happen? How could he let this happen to her?
He flips to the last page and expects to see it blank. Instead there's a final note. Something distinctly in Luna's handwriting with an address below it. He looks up and out toward the window. Could she really be alive? This was obviously in her writing... It had to be her!
He shoves his boots on and grabs his jacket. He's still tired and exhausted from the battle with Leviathan, but he can't ignore this. It might be a trap, it might be a set up by the Niffs to capture him, but he has to go. If there's even the smallest chance that Luna could be alive, then he has to go. He goes down the hallways, slips past the rooms where he can hear his friend's voices. They would probably stop him, anyways. He can't let that happen, so he keeps going until he ends up outside of the hotel.
He's greeted by Umbra who lets out an excited bark and the prince takes a moment to scratch his ears and give him a pat to the side. ]
Good boy. Now let's go see Luna.
[ They run through what's... left of Altissia. It's all a disaster and Noctis can only hope that their evacuation efforts were successful. The beautiful city on the water is practically in ruin. It's not the level of devastation that Lucis is in, but it's not much better. This is something he'll make right. But for now, he has to find the oracle.
Eventually they reach a hotel. It's one of the few buildings that looks to be untouched. There's a surprising lack of guards which is suspicious but Noctis isn't going to think about it too much now. Not when Luna could be so close. Umbra leads him up the stairs to a closed off room that seems to be isolated from the others. The dog scratches at the door and Noctis gives a nod before he opens it.
Hopefully this wasn't a trap. ]
NEVER BE SORRY.... HAVE A NOVEL IN RETURN HUEHUE
All of this excess time that she is so very unused to having after running around for the last few weeks in her rush to perform the rites and get things as ready as possible for Noctis has been both a blessing and a curse. It has given her a time to reflect on the things that have happened to her thus far, but it has also made her thing of all of the more negative things. Specifically, one Ardyn Izunia. She had known something was up when he'd smiled at her with that shit eating grin that she'd just love to tear off of his face with her bare hands--
That is not a normal thought. That is not a normal thought that she would usually have, and it absolutely horrifies her just how much hate and contempt she feels for the man. She's always disliked the chancellor, especially so now after everything he's done. But hate is a strong word, one that has never crossed her mind before until now.
She has also discovered something else in the few hours of free time she's had: she no longer holds a reflection. It had been startling at first, brushing her hair and turning to look into the broken mirror in the bathroom only to see nothing but a brush floating mid-air. It had startled her enough that she'd dropped the aforementioned object onto the floor.
It was also at about this point, as she'd been trying to worry her lower lip between her teeth, that she'd realized that suddenly she could feel two very dainty fangs. To say that it was a little concerning would be putting it lightly, and it would be a lie to say that she did not panic ever so slightly in that moment.
She's changing -- has changed? -- and she doesn't like it. Lunafreya knows she should not be here right now, that she should be in the beyond. What was it that her brother had said on his way out? "It is a second chance, Lunafreya. We can fix this. Remain calm." How is she to remain calm when there should not have been a second chance to be had? This is not natural.
She's found that sleep comes only when the sun rises, and even then it's not so easy to find. But she does, for a few hours at least, until there is some scratching on the door. Luna has always been a light sleeper, a necessary evil after twelve years a captive of the Empire, and it does not take more than one swipe of Umbra's paw against the door frame to rouse her. Pryna knows, too. She's pushed herself up from her mistress's side, tail wagging and tongue lolling out the side of her mouth.
Quickly, the woman pushes herself to her sleep as the doorknob twists, but it is not Ravus who enters. It is Noctis, and for a long moment she can do nothing but stare at this wonderful man who, despite everything that has happened, has trekked all the way here. The man who she had very much planned to spend a little time with after the Hydraen battle but had been cut short thanks to Ardyn. She had assumed she would never see Noctis again after delivering the ring to him successfully, and yet here he stands before her.
There is no chaos around them, nor is there a crowd of onlookers. For the first time in twelve years, it is just the two of them, and despite having seen him just days prior very briefly, she feels like this is the first time she's really, really gotten a look at him without Astrals flailing about, and people clapping and cheering all around.
She may have changed, but her feelings for her prince -- nay, her king -- have not. There has always been a certain protocol people like the two of them have had to follow being royalty, but right now rules and protocol and formalities are pushed to the back burner as she feels herself moving forward before she can even think to stop herself. As soon as she's close enough, she throws her arms around his neck and pulls him in close, squeezing her eyes shut as her head drops onto his shoulder.
It's strange, the way she can hear the thrumming of his pulse under her ear, how healthy and strong it sounds. But she ignores that for the moment, because right now there are more important things to be focusing on. ]
Praise be to the Gods that you are safe... [ She means that with every fiber of her very being. Ravus had told her that Noctis survived the incident, but to see him here, to have her arms around him and to have him so close is just a wonderful confirmation. She had seen to it that he had the ring, yes, but there had been that lingering, hideous doubt that he had survived. The fear that perhaps he had passed on as well, or that he had suffered grievous injuries.
But he is here, and slowly she lifts her head and places her hands, ice cold as they are, lightly against his cheeks. She notices how pale her hands look against his cheeks, still so warm and full of life, and the contrast nearly makes her pull away. She doesn't, though, instead opting to lightly stroke his cheeks with her thumbs. ]
You have no idea how good it is to see you right now, Noctis... I was so worried... [ She trails off, before she smiles a little, unable to help herself. This is, after all, the first alone time they have had since they were children, and she can't help but feel a little bit amused despite everything. ] Look at you... look at how tall you've grown. For someone who does not enjoy vegetables, you somehow managed to finally outgrow me...
[ But that's not important, as amusing as it is. He is safe, and he is alive. Her shoulders drop, as though a weight has been literally lifted from them, and she finds herself pulling him back in for a second hug, just as tight as the first. She loves this poor man who has been through so much, and her little issue has nearly been forgotten for the moment. Just to be in Noctis' presence once more, just to have him so close and here... just to stand at his side is all she's ever wanted, and now she finally has it. Even if it's temporary, to say that she's finally been allowed time with him... it's more than she could have ever asked for. ]
Forgive me, Noctis. I am just so happy to see you...
Re: NEVER BE SORRY.... HAVE A NOVEL IN RETURN HUEHUE
[The room is dark, which is a contrast to anything he'd seen Luna in when he met her in Tenebrae. Then again, that was years ago and they're under much different circumstances today. Regardless, she's here. She's alive. She's right in front of him, moving from the bed, and he meets her halfway.
It's not the reunion he imagined. Not the reunion they were promised. There are no guards or friends around. It's not a huge ceremony, but it doesn't matter. Not when his heart his practically bursting with so many emotions. His arms wrap around her and he pulls her close. He's dreamed of this moment for years and now it's finally happening. He feels the sting of tears at his eyes again because he's so happy, so relieved to finally see her after all this time. Her head drops to his shoulder and he presses his lips to her hair. Finally, they're together.
Ignis said you passed... I'm so glad you're here.
[Her hand reaches for his cheek and he presses into the touch. It's then that he finally realizes that she's... cold. Very cold. In fact, she's almost icy and it nearly sends a shiver through him. His eyes widen just a bit as he looks at her. She's so pale. in fact, it might be the lighting, but she almost seems to blend into the white dress she's wearing. He should be concerned. He should ask if she's alright, but she keeps speaking.
Despite everything, he lets out a huff of a laugh, because he is much taller than her now. It's definitely a change from when they were children. She pulls him in for a second hug, and he holds her just as close. Even if she's cold, he can't stay away from her. Hopefully he can help warm her up. ]
It's alright. [He buries his face in her hair and holds her close. His hands rub idly at her back.] I'm just glad that I can finally see you again.
no subject
These are all very good points she should be focusing on. But instead she opts to think more about the strong arms around her and who they belong to, his voice... just everything about him. For a brief moment in time, they can be happy, can be the way they were meant to be before everything happened.
But then he speaks, and a pang of guilt tears through her. He seems happy to see her right now, but she has no idea what he's going to think or how he's going to react when he realizes something is off with her. Rather, when she tells him. ]
I... [ She has never had a hard time with words before. She has been in the public eye most of her life, has given so many speeches to thousands of people. She has been on television and radio. So why is this so hard to spit out? ] ...I am glad to be here, too. I am just so grateful to be able to see you... but Ignis was not incorrect. I did pass, Noctis.
[ There. It's out on the table, even though she hasn't explained herself yet, but she's trying to find the most gentle way of putting this. That's not so easy for her to do, considering she has no idea what Ardyn did to her other than stab her to make her like this, but she knows he did this to her. There is no other way, and when she'd touched him there had been such a darkness about him, within him.
She wants to keep Noctis away from him. What if he does this to him as well? To be stuck like this for however long. Eternity? That is not a fate she wants for her beloved king. And yet, the little voice in the back of her mind tells her that he would be better off like this. They could be together forever, they would never have to be apart again.
She can see the look on his face, though, because he's... she must be making him cold, too, and she knows she mustn't look too great. It is this that makes her push those strange thoughts aside, to ignore that nagging quiet voice. But then he's hugging her in return again and it's hard not to just melt into his embrace. He is just as sweet, and caring, and kind as she remembers him to be.
For a few moments she relaxes into their embrace, a hand moving up his own back to lightly play with the hair at the nape of his neck. She could just stay like this forever, really... and if the Gods saw fit to end her existence right now, she could and would die --again-- happily. ]
I am, too... to see you again is all I have ever wanted, and you have no idea how happy I am right now.
[ She's over the moon, honestly. But this is just prolonging the inevitable. Slowly, she forces herself to pull back just enough so she can peer up at him again, having to fight the urge to just cling onto him for a while longer. ]
I pray you can forgive me for this, but there is something we must discuss... it is about Ardyn Izunia. He has done something to me, Noctis. [ There is a thoughtful pause. ] Perhaps you should sit down and make yourself comfortable before I begin.
